The Morris City Council has announced a decision to rename a portion of Locust Road to Joe Schmitz Drive. This decision was made during the council's meeting on November 4.
According to The City of Morris Facebook page, the renaming honors Joe Schmitz, a local resident who has been actively volunteering and involved in philanthropy throughout his adult life. Schmitz accepted this recognition alongside his family and friends, as well as numerous local business and civic leaders. He expressed how fortunate he and his wife, Carol, felt to have been part of the Morris community since their move there in 1968.
Schmitz was presented with the new street sign and a cake to commemorate the occasion.
"How lucky are we that they chose Morris as the place to grow roots and raise their family!" said the city in a post about the celebration. "Thank you for all you continue to do for our great community!"
