Morris Resident Kathryn M. Slater Passes Away at 84

Morris resident Kathryn M. Slater, born February 23, 1940, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. She was the daughter of Clarence and Bernice Hoffman. Slater worked at various establishments throughout her life including Personal Products, Federal Paper Board, Jefferson Smurfit, Morris Daily Hearld, and Morris Family Shoes. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, known for her sewing skills and delicious Jello molds. Slater was also involved in her community, teaching Sunday school at First United Methodist church and serving as a den mother for Cub Scout pack 476.

Survivors include her children Diana McComas, Robert Slater, and Scott Slater, grandchildren Michael Hockings and Sterling Slater, as well as great-grandchildren Jaxon Trofimchuck-Slater, Greyson Slater, Brinleigh Slater, and Raelynn Slater. She is also survived by her sisters Marlene Claypool and Nancy Gordon, sister-in-law Bernadine Arnold, nieces, nephews, and grand-puppies Diamond and Viper. Slater was preceded in death by her husband Earl T. Slater, son-in-law Dennis J. McComas, and granddaughter Sabrina M. Slater.

Cremation arrangements will be handled by UC Davis Callahan. A memorial service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery with a celebration of life to follow at a later date. Memorials can be made to Family, Meals on Wheels, or the First United Methodist Church of Morris.
